General Questions:

  1. What are your hours?
    We are open Monday – Friday from 9:00AM – 6:00PM. Saturdays we are available between the hours of 10:00AM – 2:00PM.  We are closed Sundays. If you have an emergency after those hours please call and leave a voicemail – we will respond as quickly as we are able.
  2. Where are you located?
    Avec is located at 1903 Manakin Road, Suite E, Manakin Sabot VA, 23103.
    From Richmond – Take 64 West to exit 178A towards Short Pump. Merge onto US-250 (Broad Street.) Make a slight left at Manakin Road, we are on the right, 300ft from Broad in the gray office building. Look for our sign, we are the last office on the right.

    From Goochland – Take US-250 heading East towards Richmond. Turn right on Manakin Road, we are on the right 300ft from Broad, in the gray office building. Look for our sign, we are the last office on the right.

  3. What forms of payment do you accept?
    We accept all major credit cards, cash, checks, Google Checkout and Paypal.
  4. How long will I need to leave my computer?
    Our typical turn-around time is 1-3 days. It really depends on our current workload, and more importantly, what is wrong with your system. We should be able to provide a better estimate at the time of drop-off. Just ask us.
  5. I can’t get my PC to your shop. What are my options for repair?
    Avec is all about giving you options. If you can’t physically make it to the store, we can support you via remote support, we can make a house call, or we can simply pick up and drop off your PC.  Call us and we will work something out.
  6. I have a computer emergency – is there a way to expedite service?
    The service is done on a first-come first-serve basis, but we can bump you to the front of the line if you need the system quicker than usual. A rush fee or increased labor rates may apply.
  7. Do you carry complete systems?
    Yes. We carry laptops from Lenovo, Acer & Asus. We also custom build our own desktop PCs using nothing but industry standard parts from Intel, Seagate, Microsoft and others. All desktop systems come with a 3 year parts warranty standard.
  8. Can you beat the prices at the big box stores?
    Typically, but instead of asking this question, ask, “Can the big box stores match Avec’s value?” When you choose to shop at Avec, you are choosing more than a particular product or service, you are choosing us. You should choose Avec because you value our training and experience, because you know we will stand behind our products and services, and because we are the local option you can consult if you need. Price is not always an indication of an item’s worth.
  9. Does Avec have any industry certifications or associations?
    Yes. All of our techs are A+ certified. Avec itself is associated with Microsoft, Intel, Western Digital, Seagate, Crucial, AVG, ESET, Lenovo, Nvidia ASUS, and Acer. We are also a Comptia A+ Service Center.
  10. My son or daughter is interested in IT. Do you have any recommendations?
    Immerse yourself. The best way to get into IT is to just take a plunge. Most books are out of date by the time they are published, and college classes are only so helpful. Use classes and books to establish a basic knowledge, but don’t lean too heavily on them. Find a part time job with an IT company and get some experience.
  11. Do you have a customer loyalty program?

  1. Can you recommend an Anti-Virus Program?
    Absolutely. Avec proudly carries ESET Nod-32 Anti-Virus.
  2. Can you recommend a Backup Solution for me?
    A backup solution needs to be tailored specifically to your needs to be effective, so we will resist offering blanket recommendations. That said, if you’re looking for a cloud based backup service, you should check out Avec Data, our in-house solution.
  3. My PC is extremely slow. Can you really speed it up?
    Of course! The majority of our customers bring us systems for just that purpose. Whether it’s a virus, spyware, memory issue or just a lethargic computer, we can help you get it back to optimal performance.
  4. Will you fix my Windows 98 machine?
    We have stopped supporting Windows 98. We only support Windows 2000 and up – (2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7.)
  5. My PC is making a strange noise – should I be concerned?
    Yes. A grinding or squealing noise can typically be a fan clogged with dust. With the computer off, try blowing out some dust using compressed air. If the fan is going bad, it can cause your system to overheat and damage your internal components. If you hear a clicking noise, it is most likely a failing hard drive, and you need to back up your computer immediately.
